Getting ready for a web release

People are reluctant to download zip files from the internet - no surprises there, they absolutely should be. I'm actually surprised by the fact that some people have downloaded it directly to a machine on their home networks without proof it's safe, part of me wants to even tell them not to as it's bad practice! Regardless of people's cyber awareness (or maybe they just trust me :) ), it's clear that having a game playable in web will make people more likely to play, so this is in the cards in the coming weeks! This release will best be described as a functional tech demo, with a huge number of changes planned between then and any kind of Steam release. You'll get a good look into the core mechanics that will remain mostly intact for the full game, and be able to give feedback to improve our next iterations. Some of the changes implemented or planned include, but are not limited to:

  • A much cleaner, more consistent system for moving dominoes around, which should also feel more satisfying and grounded in the game world
  • A freely moveable camera, allowing you to look all around each level before, during, and possibly even on reflection after failing a level if we manage to squeeze that change in
  • A better tutorial experience, explaining concepts better than we did, but also focusing on allowing the player to try things out, not holding their hand
  • Adjusted level design, mostly to take advantage of the added space from having a free camera and as a redo to test our new internal level design aids, splines are cool

I hope you're as excited as we are for the future of this project! Follow my Twitch https://www.twitch.tv/samalanda for the best insights into progress as you'll be able to see it live! Unfortunately due to life events, streaming will be taking the backseat for a couple of months, but then I'll be back in full force.

Thanks for reading!

Sam
