How does one remove Jam?

After completing the game jam that spawned The Domino Effect, we took a well-earned break from development. Our minds were still in love with the concept though - we couldn't stop thinking about how to take this game a step further, and another step, and a few more steps...

As a programmer of numerous years now, I cringed while writing a lot of code throughout the jam. Things were not remotely organised or ready for future development, as I cave-manned my way through getting a game out as quickly as I could with the time available. Getting back to development absolutely meant I could not start adding any single feature without first straightening out the small mound of spaghetti before me. Having never gotten this far in developing one single Unity project I had to learn how to make it all fit a nice pipeline within Unity's ecosystem. The next number of days of development were set out for me.

Ivy's main focus was on expanding the player's reason for playing and their immersion into the game. Thus came about a kind of auxiliary narrative for the player to experience if they so wished - having background objects in a house which told something of a story if you looked closely. This would increase the visual interest of the level-to-level play and possibly make the player care about the character alluded to in these rooms. You might think about a game like 'Unpacking' with this kind of storytelling, a nice point of inspiration for this angle.

On top of being new to the game dev scene, we both have limited time to spend on this project so development will certainly be slow. Nevertheless we will do our best to provide updates on what's happening as we go, as well as more bits of playable content eventually!

If you want to see more about this project, the best place to be will be live with me on Twitch at https://www.twitch.tv/samalanda! We're in the process of setting up a Discord server too, which there will be a link to on the main game page as and when it's ready.

Thanks for reading!
